Biography

He was born into a peasant family. Jew. Member of the CPSU since 1944. He graduated from 7 classes. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he was evacuated. In the evacuation he worked at the MTS as a combine-builder. Called Novo-Pismyan RVC (now Leninogorsk RVC of the Republic of Tatarstan). In the Red Army since February 1942.

In the army since December 1942. Commander of the gun of the 249th Infantry Regiment (16th Infantry Division, 2nd Guards Army, 1st Baltic Front). Took part in the Battle of Kursk. When the enemy tanks and infantry were repulsed on October 12, 1944, on the right bank of the Neman River in the area of ​​the town of Pagėgiai (Lithuanian SSR), the gun was rolled out into an open position and hit two enemy tanks. When the gun was smashed, and Ushpolis was wounded, he hit another tank with an anti-tank grenade.

In 1945 he graduated from the political training courses. Since 1947 Major Ushpolis - in reserve. In 1949 he graduated from the Party School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania, and in 1954 the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University. Worked in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania.

In 1991 he immigrated to Israel. He lived in Ashdod, worked in the Central Committee of the Union of Disabled War. I wrote a book of memoirs "Anxious Time". He found her out of print in 1997, and died that same year.



Awards

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for exemplary fulfillment of combat missions of the command on the front against fascist invaders and shown with courage and heroism, corporal Ushpolis Grigory Saulievich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal "(No. 7427).



He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of 1 degree, the medal "For Courage".
