קורות חיים

נולד בשנת 1927 למתילדה וליעקב בעיר אבאדאן שבאיראן. בהיותו בן 12, עברה משפחתו לעיר בומביי (כיום מומבאי) שבהודו. במהלך מלחמת העולם השנייה התנדב לחיל האוויר המלכותי, ומשנת 1944 שירת כטייס.

בימי מלחמת העצמאות, התנדב לחיל האוויר הישראלי, במסגרת מח"ל (מתנדבי חוץ לארץ) ושירת בעת המלחמה, כטייס, בגף 35, שעיקר עיסוקו היה טיסות אספקה לסדום המנותקת. בשנת 1951 נשלח לבריטניה לעבור אימון כטייס המוסקיטו הראשון של חיל האוויר הישראלי, ופרש מהשירות הצבאי באותה שנה.

בשנות ה-50 עבד כטייס באל על ובדצמבר 1958 התפטר. פתח ברחוב פרישמן בתל אביב בית קפה בשם "קפה קליפורניה", שהפך למקום מפגש של הבוהמה התל אביבית. פעל רבות למען השלום - ב־28 בפברואר 1966 יצא משדה התעופה הרצליה לטיסה למצרים במטוסו הפרטי, שאותו כינה "שלום 1", אך גורש בחזרה לישראל . בתחילת 1973 רכש אונייה, וקרא לה "ספינת השלום" והקים בה תחנת רדיו. היא עגנה מול תל אביב, בתחומי המים הטריטוריאליים של מדינת ישראל, ושידרה מוזיקה ושידורים הקוראים לשלום. פעל לאורך שנים רבות למען מוכי גורל בעולם השלישי, וערך מבצעים הומניטריים רבים.

ב-27 באוגוסט 2008 נפטר בבית החולים איכילוב בתל אביב.
